Meetings

Our chapter meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month, September through May.

Our History

Celebrating over 30 years of service to the community, Carter’s Fort Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in 1986 by Mrs. Sue Carter Johnson in Gate City, Virginia.

Behind the Name

The chapter was named for Carter's Fort, located in the Rye Cove section of Scott County, about 8 miles north of the Clinch River. Originally named Crissman's Fort, it was changed to Carter's Fort after Thomas Carter purchased the land and the fort in 1776. Mrs. Johnson descended from the Carter Family that can be traced to Captain Thomas Carter of Lancaster County.
