Lineage Research

BACK TO COMMITTEES SECTION

The Lineage Research Committee and the chapters share the same goal - to send well-prepared, well-documented applications to the Genealogy Department, enabling the genealogists to verify applications quickly and without additional research. If your chapter needs lineage help, contact us.

Our Team

As this committee has many moving parts, and we have many talented researchers in Virginia, there are now district level Lineage Research Vice Chairman. Chapter registrars, please contact your district’s Vice Chairman who can assist you with research problems first. If she needs further help with the problem, then she will contact her assigned Co-Chair.

These Vice Chairman are:

Vice Chair - District I - Donna L. Busbin
Vice Chair - District II - Lori S. Purcell
Vice Chair - District III -
Deborah L. Clayton
Vice Chairs - District IV -
Betty Jo Poteet, Janie Dillon
Vice Chair - District V -
Margaret S. Powell
Vice Chair - District VI -
Agnes M. Donnelly
Vice Chair - District VII -
Anna L. McLean
Vice Chair - District VIII -
Cathy G. Schott
Vice Chair - District IX -
Anne W. Jackson

Please make sure you know who to ask for help. We work within the following chain of command:

  1. Chapter Registrar

  2. Lineage Research Vice Chairman (for your district)

  3. Lineage Research Chairman (for your district)

  4. Eastern Division Vice Chair

  5. National Vice Chair

  6. National Chair

*The State Registrar will be contacted as needed by the State Chairs.

Training

Our team looks forward to providing training and educational opportunities to chapters and districts. If you would like to have us help with a lineage workshop, seminar, or speak at a meeting, please contact the Co-Chairs as soon as possible. The more advanced notice you can give this committee, the more likely we will be able to accommodate the request.

AIR Help

If you have a PM whose application received an AIR and think they will be a good candidate for the 250! Membership Taskforce, please reach out to this committee first. Do not contact the taskforce before you contact us. Once you contact the taskforce we can longer help you. We have very experienced researchers in Virginia and usually can resolve issues within this committee without having to send the application on to the taskforce.

Specialty Research Teams

The national Lineage Research Committee has created specialty research teams. These teams will aid with specific areas which are difficult to research or require specific skill sets. We can assist in communication with these research teams and ask that you do not contact them directly. However, if you have experience working within a specialty area the national committee needs your help. You can find contact information for the specialty research teams on the national committee webpage to volunteer your expertise.

Lineage Research Lookup Board

The Lineage Research Lookup Board is comprised of DAR members who perform research for additional documentation to complete applications for prospective members. Any DAR member assisting with a prospective member should utilize the Lineage Research Lookup Board (LRL), by entering a research request by state, using a prospective member’s record in the Prospective Member Database. Any DAR member may volunteer for a Research Request if the research can be completed in seven days.

Contact State Chair Dale P. Sayers or State Vice Chair Betty German for more information.
